Our annual Founders Day is always a profound moment for the Brothers of the Xi Iota Chapter, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. It's a cherished tradition where we come together, united in the spirit of Friendship and Fraternity, to honor the founding and enduring legacy of our beloved organization. This year was particularly meaningful as we gathered at the historic Mt. Zion First African Baptist Church in Charlottesville, VA, to reflect on our past and recommit to our future of service.
The centerpiece of our celebration was the awards ceremony, a time to recognize and applaud the outstanding commitment of men—both within our chapter and in the broader community—who live the principles of Omega Psi Phi every single day. We were privileged to have Bro. Marvin Rice served as our event speaker, whose powerful message resonated with everyone in attendance, inspiring us.
Honoring Excellence: 2025 Award Recipients
Following the speaker's address, we were proud to honor three distinguished men for their exemplary service:
Bro. Jerrod Smith was recognized as our Omega Man of the Year, a distinction acknowledging his unparalleled dedication and service to the chapter and the community throughout the year.
Rev. Dr. Lehman Bates was honored with the prestigious Citizen of the Year award for his outstanding contributions and positive impact on the community at large.
Bro. David Simmons received the Members versus Men Award, which recognizes the commitment to the principles of true manhood that guide our Fraternity.

Gathering together in one place—standing shoulder-to-shoulder—is a powerful reminder of the strength of our bonds. We shared a wonderful time of fellowship and reflection, renewing the pledge we made to uphold the high ideals of scholarship, perseverance, and manhood.
As Brothers of Xi Iota, we continue to be inspired by the founders of Omega Psi Phi. Our Founders Day banquet is not just a dinner; it is a reaffirmation of the rich history and brotherhood that drives us to make a difference in the world. We look forward to continuing our work in the community and strengthening the legacy for generations of Brothers to come.
